Jo
A unit for measuring the size of a room. One jo is the area of one tatami mat. Tatami mats are the traditional flooring used in Japan, and since they have a standard size, they have been used to measure room sizes. These days, rooms with actual tatami mats have become rare, but room sizes are still measured using jo. The kanji for jo is "畳", but when measuring Western-style rooms, the character "帖" with the same meaning is commonly used. The size of 1 jo is around 1.65 m², though there are slight regional variations. To get the exact room size, you should check the number of square meters indicated in the room listing.
