Town & Local Area Info

When moving to a new place, how do you choose which area to live in?
We all have different priorities as to what makes a place comfortable: public security, accessibility to schools and work places, abundance in shopping facilities, etc. No matter the preference, it is often difficult to find a suitable area without acquiring enough understanding of the place in advance.

In this article, I’ll tell you about the public transportation and atmosphere of the Suitengumae Station area.
To those who are interested in the Suitengumae Station area, or are on the lookout for a good place to live in―this may be the article for you.

What Is Suitengumae Station Like?

Suitengumae Station is located in Chuo Ward. As the name goes, its symbol is the Suitengu Shrine. This shrine is nationally famous as a place to pray for safe childbirth. On auspicious days such as Dog’s Day (5th month of pregnancy) and Taian, the shrine welcomes a great number of expectant mothers.
Same as with Ningyōchō Station (within walking distance from Suitengumae), there are many restaurants as well as long-established shops there, giving a traditional atmosphere to the town.

Popular Restaurants Around Suitengumae Station

(1)Ningyocho IMAHAN
Although this store is closer from Ningyōchō Station, it is still within walking distance from Suitengumae Station. This is a Japanese cuisine restaurant that specializes in beef hot pot dishes such as Sukiyaki and Shabu-shabu. IMAHAN is a famous long-established restaurant, with a history of over 100 years. Families often come to this restaurant after visiting Suitengumae Shrine with their newborns as part of a ritual called Omiyamairi. Lunches cost from 5,000yen, and dinners from 10,000 yen, which isn’t something you could afford every day, but it’s still worth the price if you are in the mood for a luxurious meal.

(2)Sandwich Parlor MATSUMURA
Another long-established restaurant, open since 1921. They have a great variety of breads and pastries to choose from. There is an eat-in area inside the store, where you can enjoy bread with a cup of coffee. My recommendation is the “Nakayoshi (good pals) Combination”, which is a slice of bread smeared with red bean paste and peanut butter. They have good taste in naming! The store opens at 7AM on weekdays, so it’s perfect for breakfast!
