Takanawa Gateway Station began its service as a new station along the Yamanote Line for the first time in 50 years. Following Nishi-Nippori Station built in 1971, this is the 30th Yamanote Line station. The station’s tentative opening was carried out before the Tokyo Olympics/Paralympics that was scheduled to be held this year (official opening is scheduled for 2024). However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics was postponed. Currently, with entry restrictions to Japan still in place, welcoming visitors from abroad will be difficult for some time to come, and Takanawa Gateway Station will have to wait for a bit longer to be in the spotlight.
